In the center of the Andes lies the Maipo valley where we have our base at the Andino Lodge.  A 5 minute flight from the lodge brings you to the rugged high alpine peaks of the Chilean Andes.  Pristine, jagged peaks as far as the eye can see with fantastic ski lines for our choosing.  The peaks range in elevation from 2,500 m (8,250ft) to 4,500 m (14,850ft).  Unique to this trip is starting and finishing each day in the lush valley taking in the culture and generous hospitality of a traditional Chilean mountain lodge.  Join Miles and Liz for an epic ski adventure in the Andes this summer!

FAQs

Expected Weather:

August is the middle of winter in Chile.  They have a maritime snowpack, but the snow is often quite light due to the high altitudes.  It is very similar to Alaska.

Lodging:

We will be staying at deluxe, locally owned, traditional Chilean mountain lodges.  The classic package includes 6 nights at the lodge and 1 final night at a 5 star hotel in Santiago.

Groups:

There will be 4 clients per guide and 3 groups per helicopter for the classic package.  If you already have a group of 4 that would like to ski together, we will keep you together.  If you don't, we will match you up with the other clients that are there that week.  There is also the option to book a private or semi-private week at a slightly higher cost.  These options allow for 4 or 8 clients per helicopter instead of 12.

Insurance:

There are 2 different types of insurance: Travel or Trip Cancellation insurance and Rescue insurance. Typical travel insurance will cover the cost of the trip if you have to cancel before or during for any reason.  There are many companies that offer this type of insurance such as Travelguard and Travelex.  Rescue insurance may be purchased through your own insurance provider or through The American Alpine Club.
